First Wednesday drinks in May:
7th May at The Bowler, from 6.30 pm
13 rue d’Artois, 75008 Paris
Métros : St Philippe du Roule (best one), George V or Franklin-Roosevelt. (Map)
first Wednesday drinks at the pub has been relocated to the Bowler in the 8th arrondissement. And remember, a pint of beer there will cost 5 euros instead of 6 only if you announce yourself as being Oxbridge!
This year it will take place at Chateauform' sur le Pouce, 2 Ave Velasquez, 75008.
Tuesday 27th May - Twelfth Night in the Shakespeare Gardens
Organised in conjunction with Cambridge. The usual, with the traditional strawberries and champagne included at the interval.
No need to market what is possibly Shakespeare's most delightful mature comedy. Let's simply hope that Feste's concluding song belongs more to the world of Elizabethan fiction than Parisian meteorology: "...and the rain it raineth every day".
Tuesday 3rd June - The Queen's birthday in Meudon
from 7.00 p.m. - 9.30p.m. at the Standard Athletic Club, Meudon. Any members of BCC member associations may attend.
Events in June
25th June: Garden party at the British Embassy
Members may participate in all events and more generally join in the life of the association. Some events are reserved for members only. For others members benefit from a discount. But more generally, it's a social and possibly professional networking opportunity.
Joining the Paris Branch of the Oxford Society is a way of getting to know a fascinating variety of Oxonians from several generations and nationalities who, for one reason or another, have chosen France as their permanent or temporary home. It's a way of discovering events and activities that interest equally a British, French and international community.
The Society regularly organises:
- dinners with guest speakers (including the formal annual dinner)
- informal evenings at a pub (monthly)
- Sporting events (snooker, pétanque, golf, tennis... following the tastes of members)
- Cultural events (museum visits, concerts)
There are a number of events organised conjointly with the Cambridge Society.
Full members with a desire to express themselves in public are invited to become "authorised editorialists" on the Members' blog, which we have recently initiated. This is a space that allows us to broach any subject for discussion and commentary by members and non-members alike. Members may also use the blog for the publication of documents they wish to share.
The annual fee for all members is 40 €.
Special rates are available for members under 26.
