A request for help with research (March 2008)

My name is Jonathan Hooley, I graduated from Wadham in Modern Languages in 2006 and am now studying for a Masters in European Affairs at Sciences Po in Paris.  I am writing to you to ask whether any of the members of the Oxford Society in Paris might be able to assist me in a group project called 'Trajectoires en Europe' that I am working on.

Six other students and myself are looking at the effects that studying abroad in a European country has on one's future career.  Here are a couple of examples of the sorts of questions that interest us:

- Given that more and more people are choosing to study abroad, is this experience still highly valued by employers?

- Are the skills acquired whilst abroad really that useful down the line in one's professional life?

We are conducting our research by interviewing professionals who studied abroad and who have since decided to continue to work away from their home country.  In particular, we would like to hear from people who now have a profession which bears some relation to the EU or European Affairs; although this criterion is not essential.  In addition to these core interviewees, we are also interested in hearing, more generally, from anyone who has interesting experiences to share about study abroad.

I would be most grateful if you could let me know of anyone who might be willing to take part in our research and if you could disseminate this information among your members.  I would also like to know when the next meeting of the Society will be so that we might chat more about the project in person.
